Blessing of the Animals 2007

St. Francis', whom we are named after, was famous for being a friend of animals.  This annual event is held outside and the wider community is invited to bring their pets for a blessing.

All are invited to our annual blessing of animals which will be on October 6 at 11 a.m. at Legion Park, 333 Bald Hill Rd, Eureka.  This year's event will be smaller than last year's due to venue issues.  But all living creatures of any kind are welcome.  We will have a brief service of thanksgiving to God for all the creatures, and each animal will be blessed individually, by name if they have one.  A free-will offering will be taken to benefit Heifer International which provides livestock and training for needy families around the world.

Directions to Legion Park from St. Francis' Parish House at 126 S. Central Avenue.  Go south on S. Central Ave. for one short block.  Turn right on Dreyer Road and go .1 mile. Turn left on Bald Hill Road.  Legion Park is on the right

Breakfast with St. Nicholas

In prior years we have held Breakfast with St. Nicholas but are taking a break this year (2007) - check back  for an even bigger and better celebration.

So that all children may learn the true reason for the Christmas season we hold a Breakfast with St. Nicholas for children from the surrounding communities.   St. Nicholas (St. Nick) was a real person who was a bishop around 320 A.D.  Their are many stories of the kindness that he showed to others and his helping the poor.

During our breakfast with St. Nicholas we:

  • Have a festive breakfast that both kids and adults enjoy.
  • Tell the story of St. Nicholas and the many kind things he did.
  • The Pastor tells the story of Jesus' birth.
  • Sing religious Christmas carols.
  • Make a Christmas craft.
  • Have a special room where children may buy and wrap small gifts for their parents which can then be a surprise for the parent.
